Business Charity Awards shine light on achievements in the voluntary sector

If asked to think about the phrase 'big business', words like merger, acquisition and shareholder would most probably spring to mind. Very rarely do I consider the great efforts that companies make to assist charitable causes in this country.
It's a sad fact that in this post-recession era, where banks are berated for their bonus schemes and news items focus on company profit margins, the significant contribution businesses make to helping charitable causes in the UK is often overlooked.
Water – all talk and no action for business?

The United Nations (UN) forecasts that by 2030 almost half of the world population will live in areas facing water stress or water scarcity. WWF, the global conservation charity, believes that humanity's water footprint has exceeded sustainable levels in several areas around the world. Many private organisations are also waking up to the fact that water availability and quality, both now and in the future, could be both a risk and an opportunity for their business.
Does sustainability have a place after the recession?

Sustainability is about now and the future. The recession has forced companies to focus more on the "now" and in some cases review their entire business strategy. But the long term security of companies is more important than ever in a world dealing with the credit crunch, social unrest and the effects and threat of climate change. A UN study found that more than 60% of the world's ecosystems are degraded. By 2050, more than 85% of people on earth will live in the developing world.
