As a Public Relations intern at Mandate I have been thoroughly integrated into the operations of this successful consultancy. You do not spend your time as an intern at Mandate making cups of tea or ploughing through endless piles of photocopying. The company gives its interns real experience of what life in a busy public relations agency is actually like. This is a fantastic opportunity, but it is one that must be met with a willingness to work hard and juggle conflicting priorities.
Alex
My time at Mandate proved a busy and thorough introduction to the world of public affairs. I was tasked with a variety of different activities including preparing briefs and biographies for colleagues, stakeholder mapping and compiling a weekly Parliamentary look-ahead document. I’d thoroughly recommend the internship to anyone who is starting out in their career and looking for a rewarding position that will give them a great insight into public affairs and the political world more broadly.”

Internships
Mandate Communications offers internships in public affairs or public relations.
If you're hard working, bright and interested in public affairs, politics and policy or public relations and the media, you might want to apply for our intern programme.
Our interns, who are based in our London office, are an integral part of the team, giving support to our clients and gaining valuable experience themselves.
Our public affairs interns get involved in a number of tasks including parliamentary and political monitoring, drafting policy briefings, helping arrange parliamentary events and drafting political biographies. Public affairs interns work with our Political and Health teams - giving interns a taste of the different types of public affairs and how they work.
Public relations interns will be involved in undertaking media monitoring, drafting press releases and following up with media contacts. Public relations interns work with our Corporate and Brand PR teams - giving our PR interns a broad understanding of the industry.
We also aim to give all our interns experience of attending Mandate arranged events, supporting the preparation of new business proposals and researching issue and policy developments.
Mandate interns are paid the National Minimum Wage and are with us for a six week period, on a full-time basis.
Applications should be in the form of a CV and covering letter, explaining why you think you would be right for us and why you are interested in public affairs or public relations. You should also include the following information:
- What type of internship you are applying for (public relations or public affairs - please specify this at the top of your covering letter)
- Why you would like to work at Mandate
- What skills and experience you have which are relevant for the role
- The period when you will be available to undertake an internship (Monday 4 October 2010 to Friday 12 November OR Monday 15 November to Friday 31 December)
These should be sent to interns@yourmandate.com by Friday 23 July 2010 at 5pm.
