Caroline Maxwell

Case study: Caroline

One of the great strengths of the fast track scheme is the variety of work that you are exposed to from day one. The clients I work for are interested in issues as diverse as raising awareness of the burden of malnutrition on public health to driving sustainability in the construction industry.

Over the past year I have been able to develop my communications and account management skills. General duties include writing press releases and comment pieces, building media relations, research and monitoring government legislation, drafting parliamentary questions and stakeholder analysis.

Getting to grips with often complex issues, identifying opportunities to help clients, advising the best strategy, drafting materials and liaising with journalists and politicians to clearly articulate the message is what makes working at Mandate exciting. Being able to work across the different practice areas and tapping into the expertise of other communications specialists from the wider Engine group means that there is no typical day in the office.

The training provided is second to none. I have been given the opportunity to attend interesting seminars led by experts in their respective fields such as Special Advisors, editors of national papers and even the more unusual Polar explorer! There is also emphasis to on the job training, which is a good way to take ownership of client business.

If you're looking for a challenge and the opportunity to kick start your career in public affairs and/or public relations then Mandate is the place to be.
