Given its importance to the electorate, the NHS was notable in the Lib Dem manifesto launch for its marginality. Relegated from the front page - only fair taxes, fair chances (for children), a fair future (by creating jobs) and a fair deal (on politics) made it here. The NHS occupied instead only a handful of pages in the chapter entitled ‘your life'.

Following up our coverage of which senior politicians were the best gatherers of media coverage during their party conferences, Mandate has now been tracking their successes and failures at getting print media coverage during October.
The Conservative top ten is much the same as during their conference, with just Andrew Lansley replacing David Willetts in the top ten whilst the top five places are unchanged:

The power and importance of MPs is a factor not only of the posts they hold and their behind-the-scenes influence but also their media savvy. So how did the members of the Liberal Democrat Shadow Cabinet do during their conference week at gathering media coverage? Mandate has crunched the numbers, looking at coverage secured in the print media and their online versions over the Lib Dem conference, and here are the top 15 in order of volume of coverage:

Only last month, Nick Clegg was suffered the ignominy of a Piers Morgan stitch up in the luxuriantly glossy pages of GQ.
This prominent men’s monthly contains a fair spread of politically-flavoured articles and has featured both Cameron and Brown in recent months (Dave famously enjoying a front cover no less).
This being the case, the Lib Dem PR “fixer” obviously thought they were on to a sure thing when it comes to media exposure for the party’s ambitious young leader.
